The Brutus Corner
On 7/8/24 the Stillwell's adopted a 2 year old terrier mix named Brutus. He was an owner surrender. They never adopted a younger dog so they weren't sure what they were going to experience. As the weeks went by, they noticed Brutus was displaying submissive behaviors that needed help by a professional dog behaviorist. They believe Brutus was abused based off his behaviors. During his time in the shelter, he was quarantined for a month due to a respiratory issue. This didn't help his separation anxiety.
What you will be reading are updates on his progress. The updates may not be recorded here on a daily basis.
7/8/24: Brutus was very excited to see us at the shelter. He was a larger dog than Paulie and I had a few concerns about that. After going through two hand surgeries and a fractured shoulder, I wasn't sure if I could restrain him if he bolted. After completing all the paperwork, the staff put on the new harness, collar and leash and out the door we went. I sat in the back with Brutus and played his dogs tunes that was to relax him. Once home, we took him out for a walk before taking him in the house. As he explored the house still on the leash, the next thing to consider was bedtime. We had set up a safe place for him in a spare bedroom. There, a bed, food mat and crate were waiting for him. We put him to bed at 10p.m., played his music and went to relax. The first day wasn't terrible so we just wondered how the night would go and when he would wake up. I named our little team, the Bru Crew!
